About This Product

Nylon Draining Straining Bags !  Food Grade / Easy to Clean

If you're tired of using cheese cloth to drain or strain your curds, yogurt, Ricotta or other, you'll find our custom made Draining & Straining Bags easy to use and clean. A must for every cheesemaker. Strong and durable. These reusable bags are perfect for making cheese at home. Use these Draining/Straining Bags to replace traditional cheese cloth in the cheesemaking process. These reusable cheesecloth bags are easy to use as well as easy to clean. Whether you are straining your curds for Chevre, straining whey for ricotta, draining Greek yogurt or filtering out coffee grounds for cold brew coffee, these bags are essential for the domestic cheesemaker.

Includes drawstring to cinch bag and hang for draining. In conjunction with a cheese making kit, these custom made bags made of food grade nylon are multi-use: straining whey for Ricotta, straining Chèvre curd, straining mascarpone, sour cream, Fromage Blanc and cream cheese. A sturdy drawstring allows you to easily hang and allow the cheese curds or whey to drain. Easily cleaned by rinsing with warm/hot water, then sanitize with dairy sanitizer.  and can be used over and over again. If you find regular cheese cloth a challenge, these bags are a great alternative. For easier use keep the seam on the outside when draining. Try one of each and decide which is best for your cheese making application.

Cleaning the cheese and yogurt strainer bag is simple, too. After each use, remove residue by soaking the bag in warm or hot water. Then sanitize the bag by rinsing in cold water with a food-grade dairy sanitizer to kill lingering bacteria or microbes that may still be present.

The bags come in three sizes. See the sizing information below. Before committing to purchasing bags in bulk, try out each of the three sizes to get a sense of which bag works best for your particular operation and production needs.

    I haven't used yet

The Cheesemaker has great customer service! Mine arrived a few days late but it got here. I can't wait to use it. Though the mesh seems to tightly woven to let any moisture out but I'm sure it will. Note from thecheesemaker: this FDA approved draining bag is great to drain yogurt for Greek yogurt or drain Ricotta to thicken.

    Perfect bags!

Posted by Dawn on 26th Nov 2017

The reason for my purchase .... (I wish I could be making cheese where I live) .... I collected many acorns in deep woods near my home, and leached out the ground nuts. Lots of leaching involved. I used the bags to press the water out. Perfect! Thank you.

    Less Mess

Posted by Russ on 5th Oct 2016

Love these bags! I always had trouble lining the hoop w cheese cloth for the first pressing. Often got folds of cloth into the body of the cheese. Now I load curds for draining, dump in bowl and salt, then back in the bag, and do the first pressing or two in the bag in the hoop. I have some funky creases in the cheese, but these go away. When the cheese is relatively firm, its no problem to wrap in cheese cloth for the finishing pressing. Durable, easy to wash. I'm re-ordering because the bags are so handy for a fine strain of my soup stocks, I've ruined them for cheese making! Great product!

Quality, but too big for me

Posted by BHealthy on 10th Jul 2016

This is a well-made bag. If the size works for you, you will be happy with it. I am a home cheese-maker and use standard kitchenware – 1 to 2 gallon stainless bowls and colanders. I was looking for a bag big enough to drain 1 gallon of cheese. The nut milk bags I use for smaller quantities have such a tiny opening they are useless with anything except a tall narrow container like a blender jar. Even the smaller size of this bag is too narrow for a normal size bowl. So, I have been using a large square of organic cotton to drain my cheese; but, because I don’t wash it in the machine – I wash everything by hand – it took forever to get it clean. Fabric is harder to wash than nylon. Also, because it is hard to clean, I have separate squares for each product – one for cheese, one for stock, one for juicing, etc… When I found this bag I was ecstatic – it was wide enough to fit around my 2-gallon bowl! However, it’s so deep, it's way too long to then hang it from the cabinet handles, or even over my 12-gallon stock pot (stock pots must be wider and shallower than cheese buckets). Yes, I knew the dimensions before I ordered it, and it IS better than anything else currently available because of its width, but it’s not perfect for my needs, and I can’t believe I’m the only person making cheese in one gallon batches. Once I get our sewing machine set up, I will cut it in half and make two bags out of it. In the meantime, I wish someone would make a set of bags sized to fit over a standard kitchen bowl set and about 12” deep. I’d buy them by the dozen! This is a 5-star quality bag. I removed one star because I wish it were shorter. Note from Steve/thecheesemaker.com: Good point about the length. To keep down cost, the bags were made to utilize the size of the material roll. Maybe we can offer another size in between the two sizes we now offer. -Steve Shapson
