About This Product

CHEESE WAX;  1 LB YELLOW (CHEDDAR) or RED WAX   Individually wrapped in plastic wrap.

This specially formulated (food grade) cheese wax is flexible and will not peel or crack.

  • MADE IN USA
  • FOOD GRADE CHEESE WAX

USING YOUR CHEESE WAX:

First, melt the wax.  Low heat to 210F; use single or double boiler method.  Do not allow wax to come in contact with flame.

Apply by either:

  • Brushing on two thin layers.  Allow the first layer to harden, and apply the second sparingly to cover any open areas or pinholes.
  • 'Dipping' your cheese wheel into the wax, allow to harden and turn and dip again.

Make sure the cheese is at room temperature prior to waxing.

Use a natural bristle (boar bristle) brush.

(DO NOT USE NYLON OR PLASTIC BRUSHES AS THEY WILL MELT).

    Cheese Wax, many colors

Posted by Merryl Winstein, author, Successful Cheesemaking® book on 12th Dec 2020

Cheese Wax is applied only after the cheese has ripened for 3-4 months; never applied to freshly made cheese. That would block oxygen from the cheese so it wouldn't ripen.....I like the 4 different colors. The smaller size is handier for melting.

    Best wax to coat Bottarga

Posted by Dan D. Maslia on 2nd Apr 2019

I have used many types of wax to coat my bottarga. This wax is the best in that it does not crack when hardened and refrigerated

    Easy to use, very effective

Posted by Jobe Ritchie on 9th Apr 2017

I waxed a Butterkase with this and there was no mold growth. Very easy to use and will keep coming back for more. It took about 1/6th of the bar to put a good coat around a 3 lb cheese wheel.

    nice hard wax

I had never waxed cheese before. This melted quickly over a double-boiler on low. I bought clear so that I could see any mold starting on cheese under wax.

    Good wax

Posted by Cindy Drozda on 24th Jun 2014

I haven't used a lot of different products, but can find no reason to try anything else. This wax does the job. Easy to use, strong enough to hold up to cheese storage if a thick coat is applied. What more can one say about wax?
