If you don’t know anything about Kefir, Kefir is a fermented and cultured beverage. As far as taste goes, it tastes a lot like a yogurt drink. What makes Kefir so great to have on hand is that it is nutrient dense. It has plenty of B vitamins, potassium, calcium and protein. Not to mention, like yogurt, the probiotics are important. They help improve the healthy bacteria ratio in your gastrointestinal tract. While you can use dairy milk to produce Kefir, you can also choose non-dairy options or options aside from cow’s milk.
Most of the time, Kefir will ferment at room temperature. However, in the winter, it may be too cold for it to heat properly. The milk produced is creamy and tart but where Kefir is different is that it is a lot thinner than yogurt. So, what do you need to make the best Kefir? Kefir grains are the key.
Fresh organically grown Kefir grains produce a full flavor profile to create authentic fresh Kefir. When you have Kefir grains, expect them to propagate or to produce more grain. While you can work with dehydrated grains, it’s recommended that you look for fresh Kefir grains for sale. These fresh grains work a lot better. You can expect that your grain is harvested on the day that you make your order. Then, once the grain is in your hand, it should double about every ten days.
In order to maintain a warm temperature in your Kefir vessel, you should consider fermentation heater belts. These belts will help keep your Kefir grain warm, especially when the colder months arrive. Now that you know where to buy Kefir grains, there’s no reason not to have the freshest grain possible.

I had a batch of kefir that I had kept going for 3 years. Then life intervened, and I killed it. I tried the freeze dried grains from snotber supplier - no go, and got my money back. Got a restart of my strain from a friend, but it was yeast contaminated. Oops - I use my kefir not only for smoothies, but to culture my cheese - can’t have yeast in it. Ordered Steve’s, they came quickly, and as advertised, they are plump, happy grains. The doubled size in under a week once they were up and running (per instructions included). I highly recommend these to anyone wanting high quality kefir grains.
Very happy with the product

I was looking to buy kefir grains for many months. I could not find them anywhere. I was very happy to see this product on your website. It works great and the instructions are very good and when I had a question I was able to contact you and get the answer. The kefir is very good for the digestive system that I was able to make from your product. Thank you very much.

I was very pleased with the kefir grains I purchased a few weeks ago. They were moist and fresh, also packaged well and speedily delivered with very clear instructions for use. They’ve worked well as I continue to experiment ....so simple compared to yogurt-making! Thanks Steve.

Just getting used to kefir. The taste is great. The grains got here in good condition and acclimated quickly. They have multiplied quickly I have already saved some for backup and tried eating extra grains.
Great tasting kefir!

Received the grains ready to start cultures (NOT dehydrated). They make a pleasant tasting kefir that yields a whey with more lactic acid than acetic acid (vinegar), which is what I got with dehydrated grains from another source...who shall remain nameless. Should it be necessary, I will order more from you in the future. Also, Steve is a really nice guy on the phone.
